Lots to see, so head out early. A walk around SOMA and Mission district up and down streets taking in the sights. Headed for Needles and Pens on Valencia Ave. Unfortunately it was shut, but next door was a great place to stumble upon. Creativity Explored is a workshop area and gallery, follow the link and find out more.
I wandered in not knowing what to find, but was greeted with warm smiles and invited to look around the workshop and talk to the students! I met several students one of which had made the 2nd Apple Head doll pictured below! Brilliant. Everything from stitch, painting, drawing and printmaking was being explore. Extremely inspiring and creative.
Next I wandered around more, through Castro, a pastrami on rye sandwich was fantastic, if too large a portion, then a walk to Buena Vista Park, where I met a Scottish guy walking his dogs. He told me about the local area and was a joy to stop and chat to, thanks Stephen!!
Next through onto Haight Street with it's thrift stores and record shops, just what I imagined San Francisco to be!
Into Golden Gate Park to the De Young Museum, a fantastic building with great 360 degree views of the city!
Then into the streets of Richmond with it's soft coloured residential houses, truly beautiful.
Then after so much walking a bus ride back, after a brief sit down and coffee I head out to eat.
Dining alone I strike up conversation with a fellow traveller and then 2 glasses of wine later and home to bed!
Very nice after a day of walking for pleasant chat and hearing about someone else's life.
Home to bed then as we had arranged to go to The Golden Gate Bridge together the following morning.
Thank you San Francisco for a day of wonderful sights and friendly people!
