Taking part in a tour solo, I thought might be a little strange, but I actually thoroughly enjoyed it!
I must admit I did notice a few looks from people, some pitying, probably thinking I was a sad case for being alone. But it was really quite liberating!
The audio tour was presented by ex inmates and officers and was interesting and absorbing.
Can a place be both grim and beautiful all in one go? If so, this ticked both boxes.
I'm glad I did the tourist thing and went to Alcatraz.
